We invite you to explore the exhibition “From the Museum Collection: Szymon Czechowicz. Works of the 18th-century Baroque Genius.”

This exhibition features 11 sacred paintings on canvas and 12 oil paintings on copper plates. These remarkable works of art were created by the artist in the Pidhirtsi Castle, located in Lviv Region. Szymon Czechowicz spent the years 1762–1767 working at the castle, having been invited by the palace's owner, Crown Hetman of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Waclaw Rzewuski.

In 2020, the paintings were presented at a retrospective international exhibition of the artist's work in Krakow at the National Museum under the title "Baroque Genius. Szymon Czechovicz (1689 - 1775)".

Conservation and restoration measures were conducted by Mariia Bonkovska, the head of the restoration department, and the painting conservator, Myroslava Yakymovych.

The entire collection of Szymon Czechowicz’s works from the collection of the Lviv Museum of the History of Religion exhibited in the newly restored museum's exhibition hall.

Among the canvases presented are “St. Anna with Mary”, “The Virgin and Child”, “The Vision of St. Anthony of Padua”, “St. Benedict”, and others. Almost every work is dated and signed by the author himself. Using a few select objects, the organizers showcase the entire conservation process through photos.

A special place is reserved for the “Stations of the Cross” in the exhibition. Eleven of the fourteen stations are preserved at the Lviv Museum of the History of Religion (three of them are located in Poland). These works captivate viewers with their power and depth of imagery
